Dr Jenny Vaughan is an elected member of Council at the Royal College of Physicians (RCP).
Jenny is a consultant physician and neurologist at London North West University Healthcare NHS Trust and Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust.
Jenny has experience in a number of very different fields, including a stint in local government. Her priorities include helping to bring about a just culture and tackling bullying and harassment, especially of trainee doctors.
She spearheaded a successful criminal appeal to overturn the gross negligence manslaughter (GNM) conviction of Mr David Sellu, a consultant surgeon who was imprisoned, and helped to modernise the law in this area.
Jenny campaigned directly for the reinstatement of Dr Hadiza Bawa-Garba on the medical register, supporting her personally and helping to ensure balanced reporting and understanding of her case, both nationally and globally. She has spoken about this at the RCP annual conference and the RCP trainees conference.
She has advised both the Williams Review and the GMC Independent review of GNM. She was recognised by the BMJ for Speaking Truth to Power (2018) and has campaigned for BAME doctors which was recognised by the British International Doctor’s Association (BIDA).
