Certificate & Diploma in Geriatric Medicine

The Certificate in Geriatric Medicine (CGM) and Diploma in Geriatric Medicine (DGM) are credentials awarded by the Royal College of Physicians (RCP) and developed in collaboration with the British Geriatrics Society (BGS).

The CGM and DGM are designed for statutorily regulated healthcare professionals who want to demonstrate their knowledge and clinical skills in the healthcare of older people in community, primary and acute care settings. CGM applicants should have at least 2 years’ post-qualification experience, including at least 4 months in a setting where they have interacted with a significant number of older people. Involvement in the production and implementation of care plans for older people should form a large proportion of any previous experience gained.

Candidates for the CGM and DGM to date have included GPs, old age psychiatrists, resident doctors, nurses, pharmacists, physician assistants, occupational therapists, physiotherapists and other allied health professionals.
