We'll discuss the medical education and training review and hear perspectives from past, present and future RCP Linacre fellows on supporting the next generation of medical educators.

Professor Mumtaz Patel, president, Royal College of Physicians
Dr Patel is a consultant nephrologist based in Manchester and was elected president of the RCP in April 2025. Before this she was vice president for education and training, global vice president and held various educational roles including training programme director and RCP regional adviser. She is an NHS England postgraduate associate dean in the north-west and has established a strong track record in education, training, assessment and research. She has designed and delivered several educational and leadership courses in the UK and internationally and is actively involved in assessment as an experienced PACES examiner.
Professor Jo Szram, past RCP Linacre fellow
Professor Jo Szram trained and worked in Cambridge, Peterborough, Leicester, Nottingham and London. She is a consultant respiratory physician specialising in occupational lung disease at Royal Brompton Hospital and clinical appraisal lead for Royal Brompton and Harefield hospital/ She is honorary senior clinical lecturer at the National Heart and Lung Institute, Imperial College London and visiting Professor at Canterbury Christ Church University. She has been Postgraduate Dean for Kent, Surrey and Sussex since July 2022 and Regional Postgraduate Dean for the South East region since July 2025. She co-chairs the UK’s Medical and Dental Recruitment Service (MDRS) Medical Specialty Recruitment Group. She previously worked as a clinical advisor for the national NHS medical education reform programme. Jo was Chair of Medical Education Leaders UK from 2020-22 and Royal College of Physicians’ Linacre Fellow – an educational leadership and advocacy role across the regional offices of College.
Dr Shruthi Konda, present RCP Linacre fellow
Dr Shruthi Konda is a consultant respiratory physician at the Royal Brompton Hospital, one of the UK’s leading centres for respiratory medicine. A graduate of Imperial College London, she trained in London in respiratory and general internal medicine and was appointed consultant in 2017. Her specialist expertise includes sleep disorders, respiratory failure and complex lung disease. Alongside her clinical practice, Shruthi is a respected medical educator and leader. She established a respiratory high-dependency unit prior to the pandemic and is an MRCP(UK) PACES examiner for the RCP. As the RCP Linacre fellow, she supports physician training nationally across England, Wales and Northern Ireland. She was an educational lead for the British Sleep Society and regularly chairs and speaks at national and international conferences, representing sleep education at a European level.

This session is being held as part of a programme of events for college tutors and associate college tutors. However, all RCP members and fellows are welcome and encouraged to join us for this evening networking session.
The Spine is located in Paddington Village at the heart of the Knowledge Quarter in Liverpool's City Centre.
Car parking is located in the Paddington Village multi-storey car park, Elm Grove Street, Smithdown Lane, Liverpool, L7 3FA.
Liverpool Lime Street is the closest railway station. It is an 18 minute walk to the venue or six minutes via taxi. Black cabs are usually located outside of the station.
