RCP welcomes new deputy registrar

Dr Jamie Read will take up the role of deputy registrar on 1 January 2024.

Jamie has worked as RCP SAS lead since 2021, shortly after he was appointed to Cardiff University Medical School as dean.

He said,

‘I am delighted to take on this important role at the college. Building and supporting membership and fellowship has been a key aim of mine as the SAS lead and I’m excited to take this learning into my new role. It’s particularly pleasing to be the first SAS doctor in this position and I look forward to supporting colleagues of all backgrounds over the coming years.’

As deputy registrar, Jamie will work closely with our membership engagement team and our regional networks, including regional advisers and managers, supporting representatives of the RCP to work together effectively. He will represent the RCP at committee meetings and events, providing key points of contact with the medical specialist societies. He will also work closely with the registrar.

RCP registrar Professor Cathryn Edwards said,

‘I am delighted to welcome Dr Jamie Read to the post of deputy registrar with his wealth of experience in education and his background as SAS lead at the RCP. We had substantial interest in the position and Jamie’s motivation and vision were outstanding.’
