FRCP diploma ceremony – 2 March 2027
Congratulations on your election to the fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians! We are delighted to welcome you to the college and look forward to commemorating your achievement at your FRCP diploma ceremony, where you will have the opportunity to meet the president and senior officers as well as celebrate with your peers and loved ones.
At your ceremony, you will be able to enjoy refreshments on arrival, heritage and seasonal garden tours, and a celebratory reception afterwards.
This ceremony will take place at the Royal College of Physicians, 11 St Andrews Place, Regent's Park, London NW1 4LE.
Booking your place
Ceremonies are held throughout the year and often reach capacity quickly. To avoid disappointment and secure your preferred date, we recommend booking your tickets as soon as you are eligible to do so.
Your place as an FRCP diplomate is free of charge. You may bring up to four guests at a cost of £48 per adult guest ticket (aged 12+).
After you book
Once you have completed the booking form and made payment for any guest tickets, you will receive:
- A booking confirmation email
- A confirmation letter which can be used to aid in your visa application process
Your place is only confirmed once you have received a confirmation email. Please do not make any travel arrangements until your booking has been confirmed.
Visa support
We do not issue separate visa support letters. Your confirmation letter can be used to support visa applications for both you and your guests.
Please ensure guest names are entered exactly as they appear on passports or other official identification. We cannot amend confirmation letter to include dates of births, passport numbers or other personal information.

Gong chimes
- FRCP diplomates proceed to the Dorchester Library at the sound of the gong.
- One guest (over the age of 12) per fellow to take their seat in the Dorchester Library Gallery.
- All other guests make their way to the Wolfson Lecture Theatre to view the ceremony via live stream.
5pm
Ceremony begins
- The senior officers' procession enters the Dorchester Library to mark the beginning of the ceremony.
6.30pm
Celebratory reception
- All FRCP diplomates and guests are invited to join the president and senior officers at the celebratory reception.
- Please note the crèche closes at 7pm.
- FRCP diplomates should take their seats in the Dorchester Library promptly at 4.30pm. One guest will proceed to the Dorchester Library Gallery, while any additional guests will be directed to one of our lecture theatres following the sounding of the gong.
- It is important you sit in the correct seat as you will be called up to the stage in alphabetical order by surname.
- You will be given a briefing before the ceremony begins.
- The ceremony will begin at 5:00pm and we ask that all diplomates are punctual as it is difficult to admit anyone once proceedings have commenced.
- Only one adult guest per diplomate will be permitted to watch the ceremony from the Dorchester Library Gallery.
- A link will also be made available on the ceremony event page prior to the ceremony so that family and friends can watch from home.
- On the booking form you will be asked to provide the pronunciation of your name to ensure it is read correctly during your ceremony.
- You’ll also need to submit a citation for the registrar to read alongside your name. Please provide your citation in the following format: Dr [First Name Last Name] is a consultant in emergency medicine at Salisbury Hospital with an interest in paediatric emergency medicine and research. She is Indian by origin, and her hobbies include painting, reading, chess, and badminton.
- Following the ceremony, we will host a celebratory reception, where you will be able to enjoy drinks and canapés with your loved ones to bring your afternoon of celebrations to a close.
- FRCP diplomates can attend the reception for free.
- All guest tickets include attendance at the celebratory reception.
- Guest tickets must be pre-booked and paid for in advance.
- Children under 12 are welcome at the reception and are free of charge.
- All diplomates are invited to bring a maximum of four guests to watch the ceremony and attend the reception. Please see the ticket options tab for pricing information.
- All guests must be pre-registered in advance. We cannot accommodate any additional guests on the day.
- Strictly one guest (aged 12+) per diplomate will be able to watch the ceremony from the balcony of the Dorchester Library.
- All other guests will be invited to watch the ceremony via live stream in one of our lecture theatres.
Children
- We welcome all children (aged 1 – 11) to attend both the ceremony and the reception, and they are included in your guest count.
- Children under the age of one are also welcome and will not be included in your guest count.
- There will be a crèche facility provided during the ceremony, however, places are limited and must be pre-booked and paid for in advance via the booking form. The crèche will open at 4pm and close at 7pm. Please see the crèche section in the optional extras tab for more information.
- Due to health and safety children are not permitted to view the ceremony from the Dorchester Library Gallery.
- For the purpose of the ceremony, we will be issuing sample certificates.
- Fellowship diplomas are issued by our fellowship team via post. If you have not yet received your fellowship diploma, please contact the fellowship team fellowshipqueries@rcp.ac.uk.
- Your booking confirmation letter can be used to support visa applications for both you and your guests.
- You will receive the letter automatically as an attachment to your confirmation email.
- The letter contains your booking information, including the guest names entered on your booking form. Please ensure guest names match passport or other official identification documents so that the letter is generated accurately.
- We cannot amend confirmation letters to include dates of birth, passport numbers or other personal information.

- We are pleased to be able to offer a crèche facility during the ceremony.
- Crèche places are limited and must be booked in advance. Please indicate on the booking form that you wish to book a crèche place for your child.
- The crèche will open at 4:00pm and will close at 7:00pm for children from 6 months to 8 years.
- The crèche is run by experienced staff from Pop Up, Party and Play who will care for and entertain your children.
- Please add your child's name, age, any allergies and accessibility needs in the access requirements box when completing the booking form.
- The crèche costs £35 per child. Payments must be paid in advance.
- Children placed in the crèche who are over the age of 1 are included in the four-guest maximum.
- The crèche will not be open during the celebratory reception.
- On the day of the ceremony, you will have the opportunity to have professional photos taken to commemorate the occasion.
- The photography service will be run by Tempest.
- Pre-booking is not required – just pop in before your ceremony and the staff from Tempest will be able to assist you.
- Photography will open at 3:00pm and will take place in the Council Chamber.
- Tempest will take a photograph of each FRCP diplomate with the president during the ceremony.
- To purchase your photos, payment must be paid to Tempest at the time.

- Gowns for the ceremony can be hired through Tempest at the cost of £45.
- It is recommended that members book and pay for their gown hire in advance of their ceremony, however Tempest will bring some spares for hire on the day.
- Gowns can be reserved via the Tempest website from approximately 1-2 weeks before the ceremony. You will need to provide your RCP code to secure your reservation.
- Please note that it is not compulsory to wear a gown, although many diplomates do choose to.
- Gowns will need to be returned to the Linacre room ahead of the reception and leaving the premises.

- We will be offering diplomates and their guests the opportunity to be taken on a heritage and exhibition tour, guided by the Archive and Museum Services team.
- Pre-booking is not required – please arrive 5 minutes before the time you wish to attend to join in on the tour.
- Tour times will be clearly advertised around the venue on the day of the ceremony.
Frequently asked questions
All eligible diplomates can book their place via the RCP upcoming events page. Tickets are allocated on a first come, first served basis.
All diplomates must book a ticket, which is free of charge. If you do not book a diplomate ticket, you will not be able to attend the ceremony.
You may bring up to four guests with you. Guest tickets are available at £48 per person and must be booked in advance. If you are no longer able to attend your ceremony, please contact the RCP ceremonies team so we can reallocate your ticket as soon as possible. If you have purchased guest tickets, please refer to our cancellation policy, as cancellation charges may apply.
- All complete and eligible bookings will trigger a confirmation email to be sent to the email address inputted during booking. Please allow a few minutes to receive the email and ensure to check your junk folder if it has not appeared in your main inbox.
- Confirmed bookings will also appear in your 'my bookings' area of your MyRCP portal.
- If your booking is not displayed in your portal, please contact us on ceremonies.queries@rcp.ac.uk immediately, as your booking may not have been completed.
- We recommend that you do not book travel and accommodation until after you have received confirmation for your booking.
- We do not issue a specific visa support letter. Instead, your confirmation letter can be submitted in support of you and your guests’ visa applications.

Cancellation policy
Your booking, including for guests, is a contract. If payment has not been received within 21 days of the ceremony, the RCP reserves the right to cancel your booking.
Cancellations and requests to amend your confirmed booking must be made in writing to ceremonies.queries@rcp.ac.uk.
Where fees have been paid, the following cancellation charges will apply:
- No refunds will be issued for any tickets that cost £20 or less.
- A full refund will be issued where you cancel within 7 days of completing your booking (providing your ceremony is more than 21 days away).
- A full refund, minus an administration fee of £20, will be issued if you cancel after 8 days of completing your booking but more than 21 days before the ceremony.
- No refunds will be issued within 21 days of the ceremony date.
Within 21 days of the event date, the following options are available:
Transfer your ticket, free of charge, to another ceremony with availability in the same calendar year.
In the event a ceremony is fully booked, you can transfer to the waiting list (this does not guarantee a place). If you choose to transfer to a waiting list, the amount paid for your original ceremony booking will be refunded, less a £20 administration fee.
Please note if you subsequently book a new ceremony, the administration fee will not be reimbursed.
Within 10 working days of the event, no refunds, amendments or transfers can be made to bookings. Amendments include changes to guest names, adding guests to your booking (where you have not reached the four-guest limit), and booking crèche places.
The RCP reserves the right to change the programme and/or speakers at any time and without prior notice. It also reserves the right in its absolute discretion to cancel the event, in which case a full refund will be issued for your booking.
The RCP is not responsible for refunding the cost of pre-booked travel or accommodation and recommends taking out suitable insurance to cover the impact of strike action or visa refusal. Visa refusal does not entitle attendees to a refund outside the terms of this policy, and any eligible refund will be subject to the £20 administration fee outlined above.

- Unfortunately, we are unable to exceed four guests per diplomate at our ceremonies. This is due to capacity and safety restrictions but also to ensure fairness among our diplomates.
- All ceremonies will be available via live stream so friends and family can watch live at home.
When deciding whether to bring a child as your guest, we ask you to consider the formal nature of the event and the fact that guests will be required to sit for a long period of time.
We offer a crèche facility for children aged 6 months to 8 years at a cost of £35 per child, subject to availability. Crèche places can be booked as part of the ticket booking process. If you have already booked your place and guest tickets, please email the Ceremonies team ceremonies.queries@rcp.ac.uk to request a crèche place.
We also offer livestreaming in one of our lecture theatres. Please note that children attending the livestream must be accompanied by an adult. A designated baby feeding area is also available. Please ask a member of staff on the day, who will be happy to direct you.
- The ceremony will be live streamed and recorded and made available online after the ceremony.
- You can find this recording on the event page under the 'watch the ceremony' tab. This will be added on the day of the ceremony.
- There are a range of hotels in close proximity to the Royal College of Physicians London. The closest include:
- If the ceremony you would like to attend is fully booked you can join the waitlist.
- Waitlist places are offered to eligible diplomates in the order in which they joined the list.
- If we receive a cancellation and a space becomes available, we will get in touch via email to offer you the place.
- We reserve the right to close the waitlist for our ceremonies up to one month before the ceremony date.
- Alternatively, you can register your interest in attending a ceremony in 2028 in order to receive notification when booking does become available (we expect this to be September 2027). Please complete this form to be on the list.

- While there is no formal dress code for diploma ceremonies, diplomates have the option to hire a gown through Tempest, however it is not mandatory to do so.
- We recommend that guests dress in smart/business wear, though you may prefer to wear black tie or traditional dress.
- Heritage tours and seasonal garden tours will be advertised clearly in the venue on the day of your ceremony.
- There is no need to book a place, just arrive 5 minutes before the tour that you wish to attend.
- Tour meeting points will be clearly advertised around the venue.
- Garden tours will only take place from March to October.
- All of our bookings are recorded and managed digitally, and so physical tickets will not be issued.
- All photos, including individual portraits and your photo with the PRCP, are taken by Tempest.
- You can purchase any photos that weren’t paid for on the day via their website.

- The group photo in the ceremony hall with all diplomates will be sent to you in a post-ceremony email.
Diplomate seating is reserved. Seats are allocated in alphabetical order by surname, which corresponds to the order in which diplomates will be called forward during the ceremony.
Guest seating is unreserved. However, seating for one guest per diplomate is available in the Dorchester Library Balcony. Any additional guests can watch the ceremony via live stream in one of our lecture theatres.
Please advise us in advance if you or any of your guests have any accessibility or seating requirements, such as wheelchair access or a hearing loop.
