Global Women Leaders Programme: a programme supporting women in healthcare to reach their potential enters its next phase

The RCP Global Women Leaders Programme launched in March 2022. The programme aims to empower women in healthcare globally to advance into healthcare leadership roles.

In collaboration with the RCP Education Team, we’re now looking for senior clinicians to act as our ‘champions’ in Pakistan, where we are running a pilot of the programme. The champions will work to facilitate system change, and motivate and inspire women to progress into leadership roles in their local healthcare setting.

Financial support was provided as an Independent Medical Education Grant from Pfizer Limited.

We have developed training on how best to achieve this using learning from the successful Emerging Women Leaders programme in the UK and local intelligence and content provided by our partners and colleagues at the Pakistan Society of Internal Medicine (PSIM).

Champions will be invited to two half-day sessions in November, which will cover mentoring and organisational leadership with a focus on breaking down barriers to enable system change, in order to support and empower our individual female trainees who will be joining the programme. Other topics in the programme will include emotional intelligence, resilience, values, quality improvement and the creation of leadership development plans to support individual female trainees.

Champions will be expected to cascade training and provide ongoing support for participants on the Global Women Leaders Programme (see below for more information in relation to the programme).

Champions development workshops

Day 1 – 20 November 2022, 1–5pm (Pakistan time)

Day 2 – 27 November, 1–5pm (Pakistan time)

The workshops will prepare champions to support women in healthcare organisations and will focus on mentoring, organisational leadership and system change.

Delivery model

We will be using the RCP’s virtual classroom, accessible via PC or laptop. Learners will be sent a link to enable them to log on and any documents needed to participate will be sent electronically.

Who should apply?

We are looking for both male and female senior clinicians who are interested in supporting female physicians to enable and empower them to progress into senior leadership positions. The champions will help to drive the organisational and system changes that will facilitate more women into senior leadership positions. This will help towards reducing the local and global gender leadership gap and help to improve patient outcomes.

If you are a clinical leader working in a healthcare setting, and have a passion for helping to identify and support women physicians who want to undertake our leadership training, then we would encourage you to get in touch and submit an application.

If you are unsure if the programme is suitable for you, please contact global@rcp.ac.uk to discuss your individual circumstances.

How do I apply?

There are a limited number of funded champion places available, and appointments will be made through a competitive process. To apply, please send the following documents to global@rcp.ac.uk:

  • a curriculum vitae, no more than two pages, highlighting leadership experience and leadership development/training
  • a 500-word personal statement explaining your motivation for wanting to participate in the course
  • a signed Champion Learner Agreement (download below).

By applying you are agreeing for us to contact you via email, with updates about the programme and your application progress.

The closing date is 4 November 2022.
