Peer Support Network

The Peer Support Network (PSN) brings together doctors who are working towards their RCP Educator accreditation.

This course is designed to guide doctors in their exploration of educational theory and their development of two small-scale, workplace projects. Doctors progress through the PSN course in a cohort, supported by peers and a designated tutor, across three face-to-face teaching days and a dedicated online discussion forum.

Upcoming cohort dates

We advise delegates to book on to their PSN cohort well in advance, as the courses tend to become fully booked very quickly. Please ensure that you can attend all three of the teaching days before booking.

Early-bird discounts are available for workshops booked in advance.

Future dates: For details of future workshops, please email education.courses@rcplondon.ac.uk to register on the Course Demand List for early notification of dates. Please specify if you would like to be notified of dates in London, Liverpool or Online.

Course content

Across the three face-to-face teaching days, delegates will participate in discussions and activities surrounding educational theory on collaborative learning, reflection and evaluation. Some of the topics you will explore include:

  • characteristics of adult learners
  • roles of a teacher in the clinical setting
  • how to enhance your own practice as a medical educator
  • peer observations and the 'critical friend' model
  • obtaining effective feedback from colleagues
  • approaches for assessing learners' progress
  • strategies for reflection.

Course assessment

Delegates will undertake two small-scale educational projects in their own workplace. They will use the face-to-face workshops, as well as their cohort's online forum, to discuss these projects, refine ideas and provide support to their peers. A brief report of these projects is submitted and assessed by the RCP tutors.
