The senior censor/vice president for education and training (VPET) is a key role in the senior officer team and a trustee of the RCP (on rotation). Leading on education, training, CPD, revalidation and assessment strategy they ensure proper representation to external stakeholders and across joint activities.

The VPET is nominated by RCP Council (based on nominations received from the fellowship) and elected by the fellows and collegiate members of the RCP.
Nominees should have at least 5 years’ standing as a fellow by end of the nomination period and must be supported by three fellows.
Nominees must submit a CV to Council who will make a decision on whether candidates have the necessary experience or knowledge as required by the role description. Council may choose not to include candidates on the ballot who are judged to not be suitably qualified
Anyone nominated must have agreed to stand for election and be aware that they are being nominated.
Nominees must also submit a declaration of interests and a signed candidate contract by the nomination deadline (templates below).
A two-person job-share arrangement is possible for this role.
Please note:
- Fellows who have previously served as VPET are ineligible to stand again for the same role.
- Honorary fellows are ineligible to stand, nominate or vote in RCP elections.
- Members of the RCP Board of Trustees and senior officers (as defined under Bye-law 9.1) must not nominate any candidate for election other than themselves, with the exception of members of Council acting collectively according to the bye-laws of the RCP.

The successful candidate will shadow Professor Patel and then take up office as soon as possible following 30 March 2026 serving until 31 July 2029.
