The vice president for Wales (VPW) is a college officer role with senior leadership responsibilities. Directly responsible to the president, you will be a key member of the RCP senior clinical team, a member of Council and the RCP Wales Committee. The role is responsible for supporting and uniting the members and fellows in Wales, as well as playing a key role in delivering the RCP’s strategy and policy regionally.

The VPW is nominated by RCP Council (based on nominations received from the fellowship who work in Wales). The role is elected by the fellows and collegiate members of the RCP who work in Wales.
Nominees should have at least 5 years’ standing as a fellow by end of the nomination period and work in Wales. They must be supported by three fellows who work in Wales.
Nominees must submit a CV to Council who will make a decision on whether candidates have the necessary experience or knowledge as required by the role description. Council may choose not to include candidates on the ballot who are judged to not be suitably qualified
Anyone nominated must have agreed to stand for election and be aware that they are being nominated.
Nominees must also submit a declaration of interests and a signed candidate contract by the nomination deadline (templates below).
A two-person job-share arrangement is possible for this role.
Please note:
- Fellows who have previously served as VPW are ineligible to stand again for the same role.
- Honorary fellows are ineligible to stand, nominate or vote in RCP elections.
- Members of the RCP Board of Trustees and senior officers (as defined under Bye-law 9.1) must not nominate any candidate for election other than themselves, with the exception of members of Council acting collectively according to the bye-laws of the RCP.

The successful candidate will shadow Dr Williams and then take up office as soon as possible following 30 March 2026 serving until 31 July 2029.
