Applications are open for the RCP’s Emerging Women Leaders Programme – designed specifically to address the under-representation of women in leadership roles within the RCP and the wider medical profession.
Dr Samantha Fitzsimmons, part of the programme’s 2019/20 cohort, is a Consultant Cardiologist in Adult Congenital Heart Disease, Honorary Clinical Senior Lecturer, and Lead Clinician for the ACHD Pulmonary Hypertension service, University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust.
She is clear about the impact on her career:
“The programme equipped me with the skills to understand the different personality traits of my team members and how to adjust my leadership techniques to compliment these. It has empowered me to investigate more leadership roles within my Trust and at a National Level. I have taken on the Lead Clinician role for the ACHD Pulmonary Hypertension Service within our Trust.”
“My involvement with the programme allowed me to meet the most inspirational and like-minded group of women from across the UK, practicing in a variety of areas in medicine. Their support and advice during the most challenging 2020 has been invaluable. They have inspired and encouraged me to push myself forward, out of my comfort zone, with their own amazing achievements and personal advice.”
“I would, and have already, recommended the Emerging Women Leaders Programme to all my female trainees and new Consultant colleagues.”
Applications for the 2021/22 cohort close on 30th August 2021. A limited number of funded spaces are available. To apply please fill in the form available here.
