The RCP is looking for a small number of additional garden fellows to join the existing group who lead tours of its renowned medicinal garden at Regent’s Park in London, and whose duties include contributing to publications, lectures, podcasts and the garden’s website.
Applicants should have an interest in medicinal plants and be prepared to learn more - prior expertise is less important than enthusiasm as further training will be provided. Good face-to-face communication skills are essential and other relevant skills may include teaching or social media, expertise in the history or philosophy of European medicine or knowledge of traditional medicine in other parts of the world.
Up to three new recruits will join nine associate garden fellows working with John Newton, who recently took over as the lead garden fellow from Henry Oakeley, the College’s first garden fellow appointed back in 2005.
Says Professor Newton: “There is so much to be considered and celebrated about the RCP and its long history. The garden is a living manifestation of the organisation’s past and current importance, and we feel privileged to be showing it to the public and to professionals while explaining the scientific basis of the role of plants in medicine. I am sure that whoever joins us will enjoy playing their part in that endeavour.”
Applications, from RCP subscribing members or fellows, are encouraged from the full diverse range of the membership. Please send a brief CV and 1-page covering letter explaining your interest to john.newton@rcp.ac.uk by 28 March 2022.
