Cardiff ceremony marks 'first of its kind' outside London

RCP president Professor Dame Jane Dacre spoke about some of the remarkable achievements by doctors in Wales, and attempted a word or two in Welsh.

Leading the ceremony, which for the first time were taking place outside London, was the RCP's vice president for Wales, Dr Gareth Llewellyn, who was joined by current president Professor Dame Jane Dacre along with RCP registrar and president-elect Dr Andrew Goddard. Music was provided by the Welsh Cardiovascular Society's male voice choir and St Woolos Sinfonia.

New RCP fellow Dr Mark Taubert, clinical director and consultant physician at Velindre NHS Trust, called the event 'historic in so many aspects', while Dr Olwen Williams, who was recently elected to RCP Council, described the day as ‘perfect material for rocking chair memories’.

The RCP's office in Wales, which organised the ceremony, also praised the day and said it would like it to become an annual celebration.
