Following RCP Council’s decision to hold an EGM, the date for the meeting has now been confirmed as Wednesday 13 March 2024.
The meeting will take place between 5.30 and 7.30pm both virtually and at the RCP in Regent’s Park. It will be managed by Civica Election Services, fully open to RCP fellows and available to subscribing physician members to view.
The meeting will debate issues relating to the physician associate profession. Voting and motion details will be circulated shortly. Full papers will be shared electronically with fellows at least two weeks in advance of the meeting.
While college byelaws restrict voting to RCP fellows only, all subscribing physician members will have an opportunity to share their views in a survey to be circulated shortly.
Our consensus statement and latest bulletin make clear the RCP’s position on physician associates. In summary, RCP Council is supportive of PAs but is clear that they are not a replacement for doctors; rather, they are supplementary members of the multidisciplinary team. The RCP is determined to use all the levers we have to improve NHS working environments, the design and delivery of training, and the retention of all doctors.
