RCP responds to Jonathan Ashworth's speech at the Labour Party Conference 2021
Andrew Goddard, president of the Royal College of Physicians, said:
“Labour’s pledge to tackle the causes of ill-health is very welcome. Across the board, health organisations agree that health inequalities need to be urgently addressed if people and the country are to prosper. That almost 200 organisations have come together in the Inequalities in Health Alliance to call for an explicit cross-government strategy to reduce health inequalities is testament to this.
“Addressing the factors that cause ill-health in the first place, such as poor housing, diet and air quality, must be a central focus of this government and the next. We can’t lose sight of the fundamental role that good health plays in the prosperity of our nation – a healthy workforce has a direct effect on the health of our economy."
