The suite of Five Trauma evidence-based guidance topics, commissioned by National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE), developed by the National Clinical Guideline Centre (NCGC) and hosted by the Royal College of Physicians (RCP), has been published today.
This is the first full service delivery guidance to be published which complements a number of clinical guidelines and it will support health care professionals to deliver high quality evidence-based trauma care. The five key areas of trauma care include:
- fractures
- complex fractures
- spinal injury assessment
- major trauma
- major trauma services
The new Five Trauma guidance topics include recommendations on:
- the best method to stop bleeding at the scene of an accident
- how to effectively manage open fractures
- to promote better communication
- to provide the patient’s GP a written summary with diagnosis, management plan and expected outcome within 24 hours of admission
The complete recommendations for each of the five trauma guidelines (fractures, complex fractures, spinal injury assessment, major trauma and major trauma services) are available on the NICE website.
