The Royal College of Physicians (RCP) has appointed FY3 doctor Dr Matthew Lee as deputy special adviser on healthcare sustainability and climate change.
Dr Matthew Lee is a foundation year 3 (FY3) doctor based in north Wales. He has a longstanding interest in protecting and restoring the natural world and has been fascinated by nature since childhood. While studying medicine at Cardiff University, he joined the Wilderness and Expedition Medicine Society, where he discovered he could combine his love of the outdoors with medicine.
He has helped to develop the local hospital ‘Green Group’ and volunteers as the sustainability lead for Doctors’ Association UK, where he led a national campaign advocating for the Climate and Nature Bill. in England. He is an active member of the Green Health Wales Network, the EcoMedics community and he is currently undertaking an MSc in environment and human health with Exeter University. By joining the RCP’s team of special advisers, he hopes to encourage the healthcare community to advocate for the restoration of the natural world for the sake of health.
