RCP elects clinical vice president and new Council members

Dr Anita Donley, a consultant physician in acute medicine at Plymouth Hospitals NHS Trust, has been elected as the RCP’s new clinical vice president. In the role, Anita will be responsible for the RCP’s clinical quality work and will lead the Clinical Standards Department, including work relating to guidelines, national audit, service accreditation quality improvement, patient safety and revalidation. Dr Donley will represent the RCP at the highest levels in issues relating to clinical standards and the national quality agenda.

In addition to her role as an acute physician, Dr Donley is medical director of the Department of Health’s Revalidation Support Team. Her past roles include national clinical director for venous thromboembolism (VTE), chair of the chief medical officer’s Expert Group on the Medical Care of Suspected Internal Drugs Traffickers, and a founder member of the Postgraduate Medical Education and Training Board. Dr Donley also sat on RCP Council between 1989–1981, and again in 1995–1998.

Dr Donley will be taking over from Dr Linda Patterson, who has served in the role since 2010.

Commenting on her election to the role of RCP clinical vice president, Dr Anita Donley said:

I am delighted that fellows of the RCP have elected me as the next clinical vice-president.

I look forward to working with members, fellows, officers, staff and other groups to continue setting higher standards. In particular, I am keen to support clinicians in developing appropriate clinical standards resources and data which can help us lead service improvement at ward and board level.

RCP members and fellows have also elected four new members of Council. Dr Rowan Hillson, Dr John Quin, Professor Margaret Johnson and Dr David Nicholl will join RCP Council from August 2013.
