RCP President recognised in Queen's birthday honours list

During his time as president of the RCP, Professor Gilmore has championed medical leadership and the greater integration of clinical teams, as well as working to ensure the future workforce of the NHS will reflect needs and be flexible enough to continue to provide the highest standards of care to patients.

Professor Gilmore has also recently chaired a review of prescription charges for the Department of Health and is chair of the Alcohol Health Alliance, which he helped to establish. He has also been a strong supporter of tackling public health issues including alcohol misuse, health inequalities and the impacts of climate change.

Professor Gilmore became president of the RCP in 2006 and previously served the RCP as registrar. Professor Gilmore is a consultant physician and gastroenterologist at the Royal Liverpool University Hospitals and honorary professor at the Department of Medicine, University of Liverpool. He is currently president-elect of the British Society of Gastroenterology.

Commenting on the announcement, Professor Gilmore said:

I am delighted to receive this honour, which I believe acknowledges and reflects the tremendous efforts made by the Royal College of Physicians to improve health and healthcare in the UK and beyond. This is done through setting standards, educating doctors, and promoting an environment where people can make choices that promote health and wellbeing.
