The president of the Royal College of Physicians (RCP), Professor Jane Dacre, responds to the appointment of Professor Steve Powis as NHS England’s new medical director.
I’m delighted to hear that Professor Steve Powis has been appointed today as NHS England’s new medical director.
His background as a renal medicine physician, a NHS medical director and as a clinical academic, will bring a strong combination of skills and practical knowledge to the role. Also, having worked with him for many years, and as a Fellow of the RCP, I know that he will be perfectly suited to understanding the current challenges staff, hospitals, and the wider NHS currently face.
We look forward to working with him and NHS England to continually improve the care for the patients we treat every day.
