Commenting on the latest Inflammatory Bowel Disease standards (IBD) published today, Dr Ian Arnott, Clinical lead for the UK Inflammatory Bowel Disease audit said:
I very much welcome the latest Standards for the Healthcare of People who have Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) published today. These standards are excellent for patients because they let them to know what to expect from their IBD service and they are important for clinicians because they set out a ‘gold standard’ to strive towards and assess themselves against (through the UK audit programme at a national level, and locally). The standards are driven by the patient group, and previous standards have been met with huge support from the IBD community, and I hope these updated standards will be met in the same way. We in the UK IBD audit programme will be using this updated version as a basis for our audit and quality improvement work in the future and really hope that they are taken into account when NICE begins work on IBD quality standards later this year.
