RCP president professor Jane Dacre today welcomed the news of the extra finance for the NHS. She said:
As well as helping the NHS cope with winter pressures, we hope that the extra finance will be used to invest in integration of primary, secondary and community care much more effectively than before, in line with NHS England’s Five Year Forward View. In future we will also need higher levels of investment to continue to improve care for our patients. The plan offers several new models of care that echo the RCP Future Hospital report’s ideas of promoting integrated care and bringing care closer to the patient, including a variety of new care models. By investing in and piloting these models now, we can improve patient care in the future as well as reducing costs.
