RCP welcomes the NICE guideline on rehabilitation for people who have had a stroke

I welcome the publication of the NICE clinical guideline on Stroke rehabilitation. Even with the best acute care there will be many people with stroke who need help regaining function. This is an area of work that has perhaps been neglected, particularly the rehabilitation of people after they have been discharged from hospital.

Recovery from stroke can take a long time and it is important that we have well organised, specialist care for stroke patients to help them achieve the very best possible outcome.

Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCG’s) should find this guideline invaluable when commissioning stroke care and the patients themselves should be given access to the patient version so that they know what care they should expect to receive.

The NICE guideline is available from the NICE website.
