The RCP welcomes new advice from the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) on a third dose vaccination for those with severe immunosuppression.
Following new advice from the JCVI that individuals aged 12 years and over with severe immunosuppression should be offered a third dose in their primary vaccination schedule, RCP registrar Professor Cathryn Edwards commented:
"The RCP welcomes the JCVI’s statement on a third primary dose vaccination for individuals who are immunosuppressed due to underlying health conditions or medical treatment.
"We will now start work with leading medical specialty organisations to clarify the detail around risk in specific patient groups. A further statement summarising and highlighting the implications of the JCVI’s recommendations for both patients and physicians will be made over the next few weeks."
