Dr Sarah Clarke, President of the Royal College of Physicians, has responded to the Infected Blood Inquiry.
The Infected Blood Inquiry was established ‘to examine the circumstances in which men, women and children treated by national Health Services in the United Kingdom were given infected blood and infected blood products, in particular since 1970’. It has now issued its final report.
Dr Sarah Clarke, president of the Royal College of Physicians, said:
‘This is a tragedy for all those impacted by infected blood, the patients and their families. Patient safety, informed consent and good medical practice must be at the heart of delivering care. This report will be essential reading for all healthcare professionals.
‘We will now look to integrate any recommendations and additional learning from the inquiry into our work.’
