The Future Hospital Programme (FHP) at the Royal College of Physicians (RCP) is seeking to appoint a clinical fellow (through secondment) to support the research and evaluation activities of the FHP. The post is full-time (Monday–Friday, 9am–5pm) and fixed for 12 months.
In September 2012, the Future Hospital Commission published Future hospital: Caring for medical patients. This report set out a programme of recommendations for the RCP and the wider health and social care system. The RCP established the Future Hospital Programme to develop and implement the RCP’s vision for the future of medical care in hospital and community settings.
The role
Working closely with the FHP team, and other RCP departments and leadership, the clinical fellow will be responsible for:
- establishing and evaluating the framework of the FHP
- leading on the development of a final report evaluating the FHP and the application of future hospital principles
- coordinating other clinicians working with the FHP to apply academic and scientific analytics to their projects
- playing a vital role in the chief registrar pilot project
- being a key point of contact and expertise for the external evaluation team
- sourcing external funding to support FHP activities.
Excellent written communication skills are essential for the role as the fellow will also be responsible for supporting external FHP partners with academic writing and publication. The fellow will work to build strong relationships with academic partners across the UK and will work closely with these contacts in the evaluation of the FHP and its projects. Evidence of peer-reviewed published work is an essential requirement for this role.
We are looking for a self-starter who is able to work without supervision on a day-to-day basis. It is also important that the fellow is passionate about their work and will be committed to the FHP and its activities. As such, there is some flexibility in the requirements for the role for an individual who may have specific interests in this field.
