LTMD overview

Project background

Through the evaluation of trainee physicians, the Joint Royal Colleges of Physicians Training Board (JRCPTB) and the Royal College of Physicians (RCP) became aware that the requirement ‘to do an audit’ had, in many cases for junior doctors, been little more than a data collection exercise with no subsequent learning, action or long-term consequences for patient care.

The LTMD project has specifically explored the acceptability and feasibility of introducing a QI project within core medical training, and tested one method for engaging and inspiring frontline junior doctors.
