Future Healthcare Journal editorial fellowship: call for applicants

We are pleased to announce that the Future Healthcare Journal (FHJ) is offering a 12-month editorial fellowship for a motivated medical student with an interest in academic publishing and healthcare innovation. The fellow will receive hands-on training in the editorial processes and policies of FHJ and will be well prepared to take on an editorial role in manuscript submissions to FHJ.

The fellowship is open to medical students at any stage of their undergraduate training who have a demonstrable interest in research, healthcare policy or medical writing. Applicants with experience in student-led publications, research projects or academic societies are encouraged to apply.

The successful fellow will work closely with the editorial board, gaining experience in manuscript review, editorial decision making, content commissioning and journal operations.

The fellow will take on a primary role advertising the journal’s remit to medical student societies and networks to encourage high-quality academic submissions from medical students and allied healthcare students.

With guidance from the editor-in-chief and associate editors, the fellow will solicit peer reviewers, make decision recommendations, and handle all aspects of the editorial process.

The fellow will be expected to dedicate time to engage with correspondence from the journal management team and other editors and attend the editorial board meetings three times per year. There will be no financial remuneration for this role. Applicants are welcome to contact Dr Linford Fernandes on linford.fernandes@nhs.net if they have questions about the role.

How to apply

Applications should include a current CV and a personal statement (maximum 250 words) outlining the applicant’s interest in medical publishing, their ideas to broaden the journal’s reach, and their own career aspirations. Applications should be submitted to FHJ@rcp.ac.uk by 2 August 2026.

Future Healthcare Journal is committed to training the next generation of clinician scholars. We look forward to receiving your application.
