What we are doing
The pulmonary rehabilitation workstream comprises three parts: a continuous clinical audit of service provision and delivery of pulmonary rehabilitation, a snapshot audit of the organisation and resourcing of services and an accreditation programme in England and Wales. Participation in the pulmonary rehabilitation workstream of the National Asthma and COPD Audit Programme (NACAP) is a requisite of trust quality accounts.
The pulmonary rehabilitation workstream previously formed part of the National COPD Audit Programme, which produced clinical, organisational and outcome reports in 2017 and early 2018.
The pulmonary rehabilitation (PR) workstream comprises three parts:
Pulmonary rehabilitation – continuous clinical audit
This audit launched on 1 March 2019 and aims to collect information on all patients referred to and who receive pulmonary rehabilitation for COPD. Data, obtained from patient case notes is collected and entered into a secure and bespoke audit web tool.
Pulmonary rehabilitation – organisational audit
A second snapshot organisation audit is taking place between 1st November and 26th November 2021 to collect data on the organisation and resourcing on PR services, which is strongly linked to the quality of care provided to patients. Visit the workstream resources page for guidance to help PR services complete this audit. For more information on the first snapshot organisation audit which took place between July and September 2019, please see the PR combined audit 2019 report.
Pulmonary rehabilitation – accreditation
The PRSAS accreditation programme was launched in April 2018 to recognise excellence in PR services’ provision of care and support services to make improvements. The programme is supported by NHS England, and runs partnership with our PR audit programme. You can register via the PRSAS website.
