The adult asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) organisational audit report 2019 is the first published organisational audit report following the launch of the National Asthma and COPD Audit Programme (NACAP) in March 2018. The report presents data describing the resourcing and organisation of services relevant to the care of adult patients with asthma and COPD that are admitted to hospital. Data collection for this snapshot audit took place between 1 April and 1 July 2019 in England, Scotland and Wales. The report highlights key findings and recommendations and also includes a selection of case studies from participating hospital teams which showcase good practice.

In his transparency and open data letter to cabinet ministers on 7 July 2011, then prime minister, David Cameron, made a commitment to make clinical audit data available from the national audits within the National Clinical Audit and Patient Outcomes Programme (NCAPOP). This data was released in an open and standardised format for the first time in December 2011, and provided annually from then onwards.

The pulmonary rehabilitation (PR) clinical audit interim report is the first report published post launch of continuous data collection on 1 March 2019. It presents information on over 6,000 patients who were assessed for pulmonary rehabilitation between 1 March – 31 May and discharged by 31 August 2019.Data include national and country level performance for key process measures such as waiting times for PR, initially assessments and walking tests, discharge assessments and completion rates for PR. In addition, data on outcomes measures for improvements in exercise capacity and health status are also presented.

COPD clinical audit 2018/19 is the third clinical audit report post launch of continuous data collection (on 1 February 2017). It presents data describing the cohort of patients discharged between 1 October 2018 and 30 September 2019. It presents key process measures including provision of timely review by a member of the respiratory team, oxygen prescription, provision of non-invasive ventilation, spirometry, recording of smoking status and referral to behavioural change invention and/or being prescribed stop smoking drugs for current smokers. Also, NEWS2 scores and discharge processes.Contributing to the overarching national quality improvement (QI) objectives of the NACAP, it serves to empower stakeholders to use audit data to facilitate improvements in the quality of care.Longer-term outcomes (30- and 90-day readmission and mortality) of this patient cohort will be published in an addendum and uploaded to this page once ready.
