The Royal College of Physicians (RCP) is seeking four of its fellows to join with the clinical vice president in a twice-yearly informal meeting with commissioners for England (whether via NHSE or any subsequent arrangement within DHSC).
The remit of the meeting is to facilitate continued collaboration with commissioning colleagues to ensure awareness and understanding of future mechanisms around the commissioning, contracting, payment and coding processes relating to the healthcare system in England.
This engagement will enable a platform for sharing updates and challenges as well as enabling opportunities to inform other related areas of work. Issues that arise from specialities and information from these meetings will be picked up and fed back through Medical Specialities Board.
In between meetings, there might be virtual reviews of documents or data.
Tenure
In order to retain expertise, tenure will be flexible given this is a complex and niche area a minimum of 4 + 4 years is recommended.
Requirements of the role
Be a commissioning specialist (specialty agnostic) or have a desire to develop further expertise.
To have an understanding of the evolving commissioning landscape including among others:
- The transition of some elements of specialist commissioning to Integrated Care Boards (ICBs).
- Commissioning in the context of the 10-year plan.
To have some expertise on datasets and currencies.
Be willing to provide education, explanation and commentary to the RCP clinical community.
