Student and Foundation Doctor Network (SFDN)

He has been a member of the SFDN for five years, and has a particular interest in increasing the exposure for medical students and foundation doctors get to medical specialties. Through the SFDN, he hopes to support students and early career doctors in advancing solutions to workforce challenges, meeting educational requirements and facilitating diverse portfolio careers.

Tom is looking forward to working with other members within the SFDN to promote the views of medical students and foundation doctors. He has an interest in medical education and the promotion of beneficial working conditions for students and doctors.

Seán has strong interests in global health and tackling health inequalities. He is delighted to represent his peers on the RCP Student and Foundation Doctor Network (SFDN) and aims to improve awareness of opportunities and career prospects within the profession. Along with expanding the involvement of medical students and foundation doctors in decision making within medical education and training.

Adanna enjoys observing how population health ties to her clinical placements and encouraging fellow medical students’ interests in the subject. She often takes up leadership roles such as founding the QUB African and Caribbean Medical Society in 2020/21 and organising her college’s summer ball during her intercalated year. 

Her goal, as a committee member, is to understand what future clinicians from NI medical schools wish to receive from their training and learn how they can become more involved with the RCP. She looks forward to convening with the RCP Student and Foundation Network committee.

With vast experience in education and leadership, Jack is a third-year foundation doctor who is passionate about improving medical curricula and the quality of teaching offered to students.

As part of the SDFN, Jack wants to encourage the sharing of best practice within medical education, focusing particularly on MLA preparations provided by universities.

After 4th year, Jilse intercalated and completed the MRes clinical science at the University of East Anglia and was also appointed as a problem-based learning peer facilitator.

Jilse is excited to collaborate with the other SFDN committee members to promote student involvement in the RCP and make a positive impact on medical student and foundation doctor learning and development.

Jilse would also like to increase the number of opportunities for students to get involved in medical education and research activities.

Peter holds an MChem(Hons) degree and worked in international financial compliance before applying to study medicine. He is a second-year, graduate-entry medical student at the University of Southampton. He is involved with the cohort/faculty steering group and is a personal/academic tutor to first-year medical students.

He attended the RCP medicine 2022 conference where he became aware of wider RCP activities in driving health improvements through advocacy, education, and research. Peter volunteered at the RCP last summer, gaining further experience and understanding of the organisation’s professional and educational roles. His other interests include walking, reading, political satire, and cooking.

Having completed degrees in psychology and nursing, she worked as an emergency nurse in Australia before taking the big leap into medicine. She remains passionate about emergency and critical care medicine.

Bobin believes that fostering an inclusive and supportive peer community is crucial in medical education. Through her role in SFDN, she hopes to be able to contribute to the medical student and foundation doctor community by facilitating better engagement and learning opportunities.

He hopes there will be strong integration between Newcastle and the newly created Sunderland Medical School.

Melissa completed her undergraduate degree at St George's Hospital Medical School, University of London in Biomedicine, with a focus on neuroscience.

Through the SFDN she hopes to be able to increase access to information on academic careers and alternative career paths in medicine. Melissa also hopes to improve the mental wellbeing of medical students.

He has been a member of the SFDN since his fourth year and has a particular interest in making the education and training provided in the UK the best it can be. He’s currently considering a career in acute medicine or anaesthetics. Tom hopes that through his involvement with the SFDN he can create links with Norwich Medical School and get the best for students in the east of England.

She is passionate about teaching medical students at Southmead Hospital, volunteering with Great Western Air Ambulance Charity, contributing to the Geeky Medics podcast and assessing medical school admission interviews.

Jaisila holds an intercalated BSc in Bioethics and wrote her dissertation on the ethics of mandatory COVID-19 vaccinations.

She is eager to work with the Student and Foundation Doctor Network (SFDN) and utilise the wealth of experience within the RCP to support the budding careers of medical students and foundation doctors, helping them to feel adequately prepared for the transition into their working lives.

Jeremy is in his first-year of foundation training in London. He studied at the University of Manchester, having undertaken his pre-clinical years at the University of St. Andrews in Fife. He is excited about using the RCP Student and Foundation Doctor Network (SFDN) to help medical students and foundation doctors fulfil their potential, find mentors who will inspire them to enter medical specialities, and get them through the challenge of training. 

He has interests in neurology and the design of medical education and training. He is keen to help the SFDN support the RCP to work as a resource for doctors early in their training. 

Nile is currently a medical student in Swansea with prior experience in industrial and academic chemistry and healthcare management. He is interested in raising awareness of opportunities for medical students and trainees and widening participation. He has a passion for reducing health inequity and is interested in quality improvement, surgery and global health.

Brian completed his undergraduate at the University of Cambridge before moving to Imperial College London to complete his medical studies and a British Heart Foundation-funded PhD at the National Heart and Lung Institute.

Brian is the founder and trustee of the national widening participation initiative In2MedSchool.

As part of the SFDN, Brian wants to encourage medical students and doctors to support future doctors from disadvantage backgrounds. Brian also has a keen interest in academia and wants to encourage medical students and doctors to pursue teaching and research opportunities.

His interests include medical education and research.

As part of the SFDN, Hanson hopes to create links with the newly created Sunderland Medical School.

Lewis has taken a slightly longer route than some in his career, earning a degree in biomedical science and working a few years in mental health before moving to medicine.

He realised he wanted to be a doctor whilst working with one of the psychiatrists on his old ward. 

Lewis hopes to maximise student involvement in the RCP through his SFDN committee role and he feels very passionate about maximising mental health in our population too.

Through his role in the SFDN and experience in the medical devices industry, Firas hopes to encourage the active engagement of industry with the education of medical students and foundation doctors, increasing practical exposure of the advances in medical devices and hopefully aid career progression choices.
