Dr Rifca Le Dieu, consultant in haemato-oncology, has been appointed as the RCP clinical adviser on flexible working.
The RCP is delighted to announce the appointment of Dr Rifca Le Dieu, a clinical academic at Barts Health and Queen Mary University of London, as its new clinical adviser on flexible working. Dr Le Dieu trained in medicine at St John’s College, Cambridge, and subsequently Imperial College. She has an outpatient lymphoma practice at Barts and a teaching role as a clinical reader at Barts Cancer Institute.
Rifca is a passionate advocate of flexible working for medical staff in the NHS. She has worked less than full-time since 2010 for the purposes of childcare for her three children. Barts Health appointed her as one of the first champions of flexible training in England in 2017. With Sarah Logan, Rifca was the joint deputy director of the RCP Medical Workforce Unit from 2017–21 and in this role sat on the AoMRC Flexible Careers Committee and the RCP Flexibility and Wellbeing Group. She is also a member of the NHS Flexible Working Network.
In response to her appointment as clinical adviser on flexible working, Dr Le Dieu said:
‘More and more doctors are choosing to work flexibly. This new role demonstrates the way that the RCP recognises this, and represents an exciting opportunity to develop and promote good practice around flexible working in all areas of RCP activity to support our members and fellows and encourage them to stay in the NHS.’
