'The recent report of the Working Party on Sexual Misconduct in Surgery made sobering reading for us all. The sad fact is that toxic behaviours have been tolerated for far too long in medicine. This is not a problem confined to surgery; as physicians, we must also shine a light on misogyny.
‘The Royal College of Physicians will continue to work to support all physicians to fulfil their potential and secure the best possible healthcare for their patients. The NHS across the UK is facing huge challenges, and we must actively call out and oppose the toxic cultures which hold back and drive out the doctors of the future.
‘We acknowledge the courage of those who have already spoken out so clearly on this and those who have been vocal in their support. For those who aren't quite ready to tell their story yet, we will be here to listen when you are.
‘As senior women doctors, we carry a huge responsibility to the generations that follow. We will be working with the RCP membership over the coming months to develop an action plan which can be owned by doctors at every career stage. Enough is enough.'
