The RCP is working with local communities in our two main locations – Liverpool and London – on exciting secondary school pilot programmes. These initiatives are designed to educate, encourage and inspire secondary school pupils to consider a career in healthcare.
In Liverpool, the RCP is one of the first partners to join the ‘Sixth form into science’ programme, which is being led by Knowledge Quarter Liverpool (KQ Liverpool).
The RCP welcomes local secondary school pupils from a variety of different backgrounds into The Spine so they can experience our ‘workplace of the future’. We also talk to them about the work of the RCP and how they could be a part of our organisation when they leave school.
With the same aim, we also work with secondary school pupils in London. Pupils experience our one-of-a-kind medical collection at the RCP Museum and participate in an interactive tour. The tour is interspersed with activities that help pupils identify the skills, qualities and knowledge needed for a career in healthcare, culminating in an opportunity for them to present their thoughts on the experience.
Ian Bullock, chief executive officer of the RCP said:
“We will be demonstrating the diversity of careers on offer at the Royal College of Physicians in Liverpool and London as part of the programme. London has more of a medical focus and demonstrates the breadth of medical roles within healthcare to the pupils that visit. In Liverpool, The Spine, which is one of the world’s healthiest workspaces, showcases roles across education, communications, medicine, project management, digital marketing, events and finance – to name but a few.
“We hope that by welcoming students into our Liverpool and London homes we will be able to inspire the future workforce and get local young people excited about the opportunities available to them.”
