Although the NHS is no longer organised around regional health authorities, clinical networks, deaneries and training rotation are still regionally based. As a result, local teams and hospitals commonly wish to benchmark the care they provide against that in neighbouring units, enabling them to learn from their colleagues’ experience.
This brief report has been designed to support such quality improvement work by offering a summary of information about falls and fragility fracture care across the 10 regions in England.
This aims to help local clinical teams and health service managers understand why people fall in hospital (NAIF), the care that should be provided for hip fractures (NHFD), and what can and should be done to prevent future fractures (FLSDB).
Key findings and recommendations
English recommendations have been drawn from key findings of the three audits. Specific advice is given for the following areas of falls and fragility fracture care:
- Preventing inpatient falls
- Care of people with hip fracture
- Preventing future fractures.
