IQIPS patient engagement day proves a resounding success
On Tuesday 16 February, Improving Quality in Physiological Services (IQIPS) hosted its very first patient engagement event at The Royal College of Physicians (RCP). The event was a valuable opportunity for ensuring that programme standards are based on patient centred evidence as well as clinical evidence, while bringing the focus back to patients and raising awareness of the IQIPS scheme among patient groups.

‘Habitual gentleness’: a portrait of Jean-André De Luc
This small painting, a depiction of the Swiss geologist and meteorologist Jean-André de Luc (1727–1817), is an unlikely portrait to find in the RCP museum collection. De Luc was not a physician, but he was a fellow of the Royal Society at the same time as famed surgeon and anatomist John Hunter (1728–1793) and would have moved in the same circles.

You’re so vain, you probably think this blog is about you
The two vainest presidents of the RCP, Sir William Browne (1692–1774) and Sir Henry Halford (1766–1844), currently find themselves sharing wall space in the Lasdun Hall. Installing Henry Glindoni’s painting in the exhibition ‘Scholar, courtier, magician: the lost library of John Dee’ has displaced the portraits that normally hang on the wall outside the Osler Room, resulting in some unusual pairings.

The thirteenth report from the Sentinel Stroke National Audit Programme (SSNAP) reveals today that 25 stroke services scored an overall ‘A’ score for the quality of care they provide for patients, demonstrating that a world class service is achievable.
