Fundamentals of Quality Improvement (QI)
Fundamentals of Quality Improvement (QI) is a one-day interactive workshop designed to build your knowledge of quality improvement, enabling you to lead impactful quality improvement initiatives within your clinical practice. You will gain practical skills in identifying areas for improvement, implementing change and measuring outcomes, all tailored to the unique challenges and opportunities within the NHS. Through interactive sessions and real-world case studies, you will develop the confidence and ability to use recognised tools to drive positive change and enhance patient care across the healthcare system.

During this one-day quality improvement workshop, you will explore how to apply QI methodology in your undertaking quality improvement projects. You’ll consider your role in leading and guiding QI work, reflect on how QI fits within the wider healthcare system, and discuss practical ways to embed improvement into everyday clinical practice. This session is designed to help you build confidence in quality improvement contribute effectively to a culture of continuous improvement.
This course will enable healthcare professionals to:
- describe the nature and purpose of quality improvement
- recognise the importance of an improvement culture and the clinician's role within it
- describe the essential knowledge and skills for quality improvement, and how to apply theory to practice
- identify key models and tools for improvement in the NHS
- consider how to undertake small tests of change and how to measure change as part of a QI project
- develop a narrative for a QI project to facilitate sustainability and spread
Our workshops are either delivered by a team of experienced medical educationalists, or jointly delivered by medical educationalists and senior doctors. This expert facilitation is key to the value and success of our workshops.
Our experienced medical educationalists bring theoretical understanding and practical teaching experience from a variety of academic backgrounds.
The doctors bring experience and knowledge of medical practice and are all senior doctors (from a range of specialties) working in hospitals throughout the UK, who have teaching and supervisory roles as part of their clinical commitments.
This course is open to consultants, locally employed doctors, senior nursing and therapy team members.
