The RCP are seeking a new consultant representative in medical oncology to join the Joint Specialty Committee (JSC) to represent the views of new consultants in relation to the specialty. The individual must a be subscribing member of the RCP and within 5 years of their first consultant post.
The JSC for Medical Oncology is a joint advisory committee of the RCP and The Association of Cancer Physicians and brings together representatives of both bodies to ensure an effective working relationship. Membership includes senior officers of the parent bodies, senior and junior consultants and a member from the RCP’s Patient & Carer Network. Members can serve for up to four years and will demit earlier should this extend beyond the first 5 years of consultant appointment.
It advises parent bodies, or other organisations on their behalf, on matters of mutual interest which include among others:
- workforce and training
- acting as a conduit for information relating to consultations in acute medicine, both from the RCP and from external stakeholders
- developing and extending service review
- continuing professional development for the specialist, including general medicine if necessary
- discussing relevant ethical issues and ensuring equality and diversity in committee activities
- discussing topical or political issues that affect healthcare.
