Clinical Medicine has vacancies on its editorial board and is seeking cardiologists, gastroenterologists, rheumatologists, nephrologists, neurologists, oncologists and statisticians to serve as core associate editors. Applications are not restricted to members and fellows of the RCP at senior levels; we are also welcoming applications from resident doctors, consultants and SAS doctors.
Clinical Medicine (ClinMed), the oldest journal of the Royal College of Physicians (RCP), publishes peer-reviewed content on a wide range of specialties. Service on the editorial board is for a renewable 3-year term. The responsibilities include handling submitted manuscripts, commissioning appropriate content and being ambassadors for both the journal and the RCP. While experience of serving on editorial boards is not a requirement, we are looking for someone able to provide time to the role and with experience of fitting such non-clinical activity around clinical commitments.
Service on the board is an enjoyable and rewarding complement to clinical duties, and there is a supportive and warm collaboration with other board members and with the Communications, Policy and Research Directorate of the RCP. The journal just entered an exciting phase by partnering with Elsevier and the impact factor is growing. The 2025 impact factor is 3.9, putting the journal in the top 15% of the General Internal Medicine category.
Please see the attached terms of reference for further details about the role and if you would like to discuss further, please contact the editor-in-chief, Professor Ponnusamy Saravanan (P.Saravanan@warwick.ac.uk).
Brief expressions of interest, including a CV, are requested by 4 January 2026 to clinicalmedicine@rcp.ac.uk. Informal interviews will likely be held on 13 or 14 January 2026, remotely on Microsoft Teams.
